Goddess Jaya is one of the various forms of Goddess Parvati. Jayaparvati Vrat is celebrated mainly in Gujarat. Unmarried women also observe this fast with the wish of a suitable groom. On the other hand, as a result of this fast, married women get the boon of husband’s longevity and happy married life.

Method of Jaya Parvati Vrat Puja (Jaya Parvati Vrat Puja Vidhi)

    • On this day unmarried girls and married women make sand or sand elephant and offer 5 types of fruits, flowers and prasad on it for 5 days. Mother Parvati and Lord Bholenath are worshipped.

 

    • On the first day of fasting, jowar/wheat grains are sown in a small vessel and kept at the place of worship. Water is offered to jowar or wheat grains for 5 days.

 

    • On the day of Paran of this fast, women wake up and worship the mother by singing bhajans and kirtans throughout the night.

 

    • The next day in the morning, wheat or sorghum grown grass is taken out of the vessel and flowed in the river, after that it is performed.

 

Rules of Jaya Parvati Vrat

Use of salt is completely prohibited during the fasting period of 5 days of Jaya Parvati Vrat. According to belief, some people also avoid the use of grains and all types of vegetables during the five-day fasting period. Jayaparvati fast is prescribed for five, seven, nine, eleven and maximum twenty years.
