Kidney Transplant : Unique operation in AIIMS! Double kidney transplant happened for the first time, both kidneys transplanted one above the other.

New Delhi, For the first time, a double kidney transplant was performed in a dialysis dependent patient at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. The hospital gave this information. The procedure was carried out by the Surgical Department and Nephrology Department of AIIMS in collaboration with the ‘Organ Recovery Banking Organization’ (ORBO). In this case, AIIMS doctors transplanted both the kidneys obtained from a 78-year-old woman into a 51-year-old woman, on the right side, one above the other. Was imposed. This is a unique case in itself.

Dr. Asuri Krishna, additional professor of surgery department at the hospital, said that the 78-year-old woman donated her kidney. He told that the woman was admitted to the Trauma Center of AIIMS due to serious head injury after a fall on December 19 and was later declared ‘brain dead’. He said that the woman’s family had given consent for organ donation.

“The challenge was that due to the woman’s old age, one of her kidneys was not sufficient for a dialysis-dependent patient, so it was decided to transplant both the kidneys in the same patient,” Krishna said. The patient in whom the kidney has been transplanted is a 51-year-old woman.” The organ transplant team of the surgery unit performed this operation on December 22 last year. The doctor said the achievement is now being shared with the media because “we wanted to make sure the patient recovered well after the operation.” The doctor said that both the kidneys were transplanted one above the other on the right side of the patient.
