IND vs AUS: Jasprit Bumrah created history, did this special feat in the World Test Championship 2023-25

Jasprit Bumrah Record Highest Wicket Taker in WTC 2023-25: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has become the highest wicket-taker in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 โ€‹โ€‹cycle. 31-year-old Bumrah overtook teammate and experienced spinner Ravichandran Ashwin during the third Test against Australia at Gabba. ICC Test bowler Bumrah has 66 wickets in 13 Tests, while Ashwin, who announced his retirement at the end of the third Test on Wednesday, has 63 wickets in 14 Tests. Bumrah’s talent was fully visible in Brisbane. After dismissing Khawaja in Australia’s second innings, the fast bowler dismissed Marnus Labuschagne for 1 and dismissed Pat Cummins on the first ball of his second spell.

In both the innings, Bumrah performed brilliantly by taking 9 wickets for 94 runs in 34 overs. Bumrah’s brilliant game has included him in the race to break many records. If he manages to take six wickets in the remaining two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he will surpass Ravichandran Ashwin’s record of taking most wickets for India in a WTC cycle.

Ashwin, who is India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Test history, took 71 wickets in 14 Tests during the inaugural 2019-21 WTC, led by Australian spin wizard Nathan Lyon with 88 wickets in 20 matches. He achieved this feat during the 2021-23 edition. Apart from this, on Wednesday, Bumrah also became India’s highest test wicket taker in Australia. He overtook Kapil Dev’s previous record of 51 wickets during the second session on the final day of the Gabba Test.

Earlier, the 31-year-old fast bowler recorded his third Test five-wicket haul in Australia on the second day of the third Test. Among Indian bowlers, only Kapil Dev has taken five wickets in Australia, while Anil Kumble is second in the list with four five-wicket hauls on Australian soil. This was Bumrah’s 12th five-wicket haul in Test cricket and 8th in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia). He has become the first Indian to do so. Bumrah broke the record of Kapil Dev, who is second in this list by taking five wickets 7 times.
