A bench headed by Oka sought answers from former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni and placed an interim stay on the execution of the sentence for 15 days. Along with this, the date of hearing of the case has also been extended. The next hearing will be held on March 7.

Defamation case was filed regarding IPL betting scam

MS Dhoni had filed this case against the IPS officer for taking his name in the betting scam in IPL. MS Dhoni had moved the Madras High Court to initiate contempt proceedings against the IPS officer for his comments made against the judiciary in his written statement in the defamation suit and sought Rs 100 crore.

A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan also issued notice on the petition filed by IPS officer Sampat Kumar, staying the High Court order. In the year 2022, Dhoni had filed a contempt case (concept of court case) against IPS officer G Sampat Kumar for allegedly making derogatory remarks on the High Court and the Supreme Court. Dhoni had demanded action against Sampat Kumar as per law. After which the Madras High Court suspended the 15-day sentence for thirty days to allow the former IPS officer to file an appeal against the order. Then Sampat Kumar approached the Supreme Court. Actually this whole matter is related to IPL match fixing. MS Dhoni filed a defamation case in the High Court on alleged malicious statements, in which it was claimed that he was involved in betting and match fixing of IPL matches in 2013.
