Russian Nuclear Protection Forces Chief Killed: The Russian general in charge of Russia’s nuclear security was killed in a bomb explosion. This explosion happened in Moscow. Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov was leaving a residential block on Tuesday (17 December) when a bomb hidden in a scooter exploded. According to Russian media reports, the bomb was operated remotely and contained approximately 300 grams of explosives. Last Monday (16 December), Kirillov was accused of using chemical weapons banned in Ukraine. However, Kirillov had already been sanctioned by the UK for his role in Russia’s use of chemical weapons.

The incident took place outside an apartment building on Ryazansky Prospekt, where both General Kirillov and his assistant were killed. Russia’s Investigative Committee confirmed the case and said that the reason behind the murder of General Kirillov, head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, is being investigated. Investigation into the matter has been started.

Ukraine’s allegations against General Kirillov
According to a recent Kiev Independent report, Ukraine had accused General Igor Kirillov of using chemical weapons. These weapons are reportedly banned in Ukraine. However, after this allegation, the death of General Kirillov can prove to be a serious blow for Russia.

The blast occurred on Ryazansky Prospekt, which is located about 7 kilometers south-east of the Kremlin. According to Russian news agency TASS, investigators and forensic experts are present at the scene. Apart from this, other emergency services personnel are also working at the spot.

The death of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov is being considered a big blow to Russian President Vladimir Putin. General Kirillov was the head of nuclear, biological and chemical security forces and his role was important in this area.
